Deceased Name: ALVIN DAVIS Alvin Davis, 75, formerly of Duluth, passed away March 4,
2000, in Minneapolis. Alvin was born in Duluth on Oct. 25, 1924, to Joseph and
Florence (Levine) Davis. After graduation from Central High School, he
attended college before enlisting in the Army. He was a veteran of World War
II where he received two Purple Hearts. Upon his return, he joined the family
business, West End Iron and Metal, and Duluth Hide & Furs until his
retirement in 1975. Alvin was known for his devotion to his family, his
generosity, his love of shopping, and his sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, YB
(Buddy) Davis; sisters Ghita Brodie and Riva Orenstein; and his special
friend, Ruth Gensler. He is survived by his first wife of 22 years, Esther
Arnold and their children, Sue Davis of Denver, Jed (Gwyn) Davis of Colorado
Springs, Colo., Sheila (Dale) Olmstead of Duluth, and Judy (Jason Dale) Davis
of Golden Valley, Minn. Service: 10 a.m. today in Hodroff & Son Chapel,
Minneapolis. Graveside service at 2 p.m. in Tiffereth Israel Cemetery, Howard
Gnesen Road with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, as per Jewish
